- Level of Instruction
- This program is intended for families with kids.
Join us this March for some family-fun and learn some Norwegian language along the way! Through hands-on activities, fun crafts, light-hearted games, and short videos, you and your family will learn and practice your new Norwegian skills. A kit will be delivered right to your home containing supplies for these language activities, a helpful reference sheet for all the new words and expressions you will be learning, a fun craft, and a yummy snack.
The adventure starts on March 1 and will focus on Oppdagelsesreisende, the Norwegian word for explorers! Whether or not you have joined a Norwegian Language Adventure in the past, join our intergenerational program and gain a new understanding of Norwegian language and culture with us.
Vocabulary and phrases will focus on the theme of explorers. The instructional videos teaching you these key terms will be short to ensure you will have plenty of time to be active and cozy up together as a family. These videos and activities are geared towards all ages, but probably most appropriate for families with school-age children. You and your family will be spending time together, enjoying and learning some Norwegian explorer history but also becoming explorers yourselves!
Our scavenger-hunt-type activity will get you up and moving, exploring, and discovering all that the theme Oppdagelsesreisende has to offer, wherever you are and whenever you choose.
Note: This program has been designed for families to experience on their own schedules. There is no live Zoom event and no scheduled class time – your family can participate anytime during the month when it works for your schedule! On the first of the month, you will receive an email with the links to the teaching video.
This is a youth and family-oriented program designed for adults and children ages 8-18. We offer online adult folk-art classes on our website here.
Special Instructions: When registering for the class, please make sure to use the address you'd like the kit shipped to, and the email address you'd like the Zoom meeting invitations sent to. You will receive links to the Zoom sessions by email sometime during the week prior to the class. If this class is a gift, please sign up with the recipient's mailing and email addresses or be prepared to forward all communications and/or kit supplies.
If you are registering for this class in a location outside the United States, you will need to provide your own supplies. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org when you register for more information about what materials are required for this class.

About the Instructor
Evelyn Galstad, or Eddy as she is known to many, is an instructor of Norwegian language with Vesterheim. She is a recent graduate of Luther College, where she studied Vocal Performance and Nordic Studies. Last spring, Eddy worked closely with Professor Maren Johnson in an internship focused on curriculum development for Vesterheim’s after-school program, Norsk Skole. Her interest in Norwegian language and culture started young, beginning with her family ties to Norway and then deepened as she started attending Skogfjorden, the Norwegian village at Concordia Language Villages in Bemidji, Minnesota. For the past four summers, Eddy has taught Norwegian at Skogfjorden and has loved her time there. She is so excited to continue teaching at Vesterheim and cannot wait for the adventures ahead!
