Collection Connections is a series of Vesterheim-hosted conversations between the museum’s collections staff and folk-art school instructors. Highlighting the incredible folk-art collection at Vesterheim, these conversations are also opportunities for you to stay connected with your folk-art community during this unpredictable time. Each gathering will highlight a piece or two from the collection as explained, interpreted, and appreciated by a master folk artist. The online gathering will also include the opportunity for the small group of participants to show and share what you’re working on in the safe way we can – digitally!
Share your lunch break with weaving instructor and Vesterheim Gold Medalist Laura Demuth, joined by Vesterheim Collections Manager Jennifer Kovarik, as they highlight a collection object or two to inspire your weaving practice. Then, connect with other weavers for a short time to ask questions or share one thing you are working on during this time of staying home.
Supplies: A computer, laptop, or tablet with a camera and mic as well as a fast, reliable internet connection.
Special Instructions: Please make sure to use the Zoom invitation link that will be emailed to you after registering for the class.
Enrollment Deadline: July 26, 2020
Laura Demuth has been a weaver for over 30 years and enjoys all aspects of fiber production, from raising the sheep to taking a finished piece off the loom. Because she lives on a small acreage just seven miles northeast of Decorah, Vesterheim has been a continual source of education and inspiration throughout her weaving career. Laura has focused on traditional weaving structures and techniques, and is a Vesterheim Gold Medalist. She has taught classes in traditional Scandinavian weave structures at Vesterheim and John C. Campbell Folk School.
