Join celebrated food writer and author Nevada Berg from North Wild Kitchen in making a traditional 17 May meal with a few modern twists.
Whether in Norway or abroad, Norway’s Constitution Day is a celebration full of lively parades and gatherings with elaborate tables of delicious spreads and outdoor grills on the ready. In this class, you’ll make the toppings from Nevada's cookbook for two of her Nordic-inspired hot dogs – The Summer Dog and The Viking. She’ll show you how to prepare homemade strawberry ketchup and two variations of aioli. For the side, you’ll prepare a spring potato salad bursting with radishes and cucumbers.
To round off the meal, you’ll make traditional potato tarts with fresh berries and whipped cream. The potato tart has been referred to as a cheap and simple alternative to the classic bløtkake, especially when war rations meant that sugar was limited or impossible to get. Despite being an alternative, these tarts are buttery, flaky, and absolutely delicious!
Join Nevada for this intimate cooking class, where you’ll have a chance to engage and learn more about Norwegian food while recreating a little piece of Norway in your home. Space is limited, so book your spot soon!
This Vesterheim cooking class is designed as a small-group cook-along and we invite exchange between the instructor and students in order to build community around food traditions. In this same spirit of sharing, we invite the whole family to experience this collaborative cooking and learning process. Only one registration is needed per household.
Included in the cost of this class, you will receive a signed copy of Nevada's cookbook North Wild Kitchen: Cooking from the Heart of Norway.

About the Instructor
Nevada Berg was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and during her life journeys found herself in Norway. She resides in the Medieval Valley of Numedal with her Norwegian husband and son. She is the author and creator of the award-winning Norwegian food and culture website North Wild Kitchen. Her recipes and stories are inspired by tradition and history, as well as innovative approaches to Norwegian ingredients. In 2018, Nevada released her first cookbook internationally with resounding success, named one of the best cookbooks for the fall by The New York Times. She was also the TV program leader for Matkanalen’s Ostereisen series. Nevada is regarded internationally as one of the most recognized voices for Norwegian food.
