Andrea Herkert holds degrees in Art and Art History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After a freelance career as a calligrapher and watercolorist, she took her first Rosemaling class
in 2006, fulfilling a life long dream. That first class touched her soul and she never looked back, earning her Vesterheim Gold Medal in 2013. She has been teaching Rosemaling since 2010 and has had the honor of teaching at the Vesterheim for many years. Most recently Andrea traveled to Norway on an individual study of Rosemaling, it’s history, technique and the culture
from which it grew. This was inspiring and life changing as she came to understand the importance of upholding the traditions of Rosemaling while also allowing it to evolve though contemporary interpretation. Andrea lives with her husband Jim in the country outside of Madison, Wisconsin where she is inspired by the solitude and beauty of the woods and gardens surrounding her home.
